What is CustomChip ?

This is what we call an Electronic Performance Upgrade. We do not fit another companies upgrade but instead, using the latest equipment and many years of hands on experience we fine tune the program in your ECU to meet your requirements. Improving performance is just part of the service we offer, driveability is another important area and fuel economy can often be improved as well.

Live Mapping

We are not alone in this market but to achieve the best results Live Mapping is essential and this is a service few others offer. You may also know of the term Emulation, which is just another name for it. Modifying the chip in front of a computer without Live Mapping can give good results in experienced hands but driving the car once the changes have been made is the only way to check the results. How much better it would be to run the car on a rolling road dyno and see the results of the changes as they are made - this is Live Mapping. While adjusting both fuel and ignition settings we can see the bhp and torque rise in real time.

Benefits

Road car:

The primary goal of this work is to make your car go faster and quite often a desireable side effect is that of improved fuel economy. This is less noticiable on modern cars than it was when we started due to the ever more sophisticated systems now in use but larger engines stand to benefit most. However there are occations where a customer may request fuel economy improvements with no need for improved power and this can be accomodated. The never ending raft of regulations modern cars have to pass can often lead to 'flat spots' in the power delivery. Drive by noise and emissions tests are just two of these that can effect driveability and happily the CustomChip can be fine tuned to erradicate them.

Fast Road / Trackday car:

Most cars of this type have mechanically modified engines so here the only goal is power. Due to the extensive remapping required in this situation Live Mapping comes into it's own.

History

From the begining of our work in ECU remapping, over 10 years now, we have used Live Mapping to ensure customer satisfaction. When we first started work in this area a CustomChip was a physical item, namely an eeprom silicon chip (not unlike the memory chips in your home computer), that was removed from the cars ECU, but the relentless march forward in ECU technology has changed the way we work. There are numerous terms in use at present to describe modification of a cars ECU and the oldest one must surely be 'Chipping' but 'Electronic Performance Upgrade' and 'Live Mapping' are more commonly used today.
